Notice 1. Change to Broadband Terms & Conditions or Price
(Applies to services in place before 1st of June 2022)
Manx Telecom’s obligations and your rights
Manx Telecom would like to further draw your attention to a change in your broadband price that we applied from 1st June 2022. Notification of this change was originally supplied to you in your May 2022 bill. It was noted within the “Important Notice” section, directing you to a notice located on our company website at www.mt.im/changes.
Manx Telecom is required, by the Licence granted to it under the Telecommunications Act, to inform you if we modify a condition in your contract which is likely to be of material detriment to you. We are required to:
- Provide you with at least one month's notice, detailing the proposed modification to your contract; and
- Inform you of your right to terminate your contract, without penalty if you find the proposed modification is not acceptable.
In recognition of our obligations, and in relation to the price change that we made on 1st June, we are extending your right to terminate your contract up to and including 31st October 2022. If you find our proposed price modification is not acceptable, you may terminate your contract without penalty and with all charges you have incurred being backdated to 1st June 2022.
If you have any questions relating to any aspect of these changes, please contact our Customer Services teams on 624 624 or visit us in our Strand Street store.
Background to change
From 1st June 2022, as a result of significant global and local economic market pressures, Manx Telecom must apply an inflationary price increase to your Broadband service. We do not make this change lightly, it is the first inflationary price increase we have applied to your Broadband service since 2018. However, following unprecedented market and trading conditions we find we must pass on some of our increased operating costs;
- Isle of Man inflation - the Retail Price Index (RPI) for June 2022 has increased to 9.2%.
- 12-month Isle of Man Retail Price Index (RPI) category movements that directly impact our local business;
- Oils and other fuels up 96.8%
- Petrol up 39.8%
- Sea travel up 21.8%
- Electricity up 24.8%
- Many of our global network vendors have increased hardware, software and delivery costs by inflation.
The inflationary adjustment that we applied to your Broadband contract from 1st June service is 10%.
Price change to existing Broadband contracts (services in place before 1st June 2022)
- All prices exclude VAT at the prevailing rate
- RPI Price increases will apply to all Copper and Fibre Broadband charges at an ex VAT rate of 10%
- Minimum contract term remains at 24 months for all existing Broadband services, your contract term remains unaffected by this change
- Broadband products in service before 1st June remain supported at the new rates but are no longer available for new supply
- Talk Over Fibre service rental charges are not included and not impacted by this change
- No price change is applied to a Copper voice line where one is required to deliver your broadband service
- Existing router deferred payment charges are not included and not impacted
