International Women's Day 2024: Celebrating Women in Tech with Emma Cain

Meet Emma Cain, an FTTP Field Engineer at Manx Telecom Group. Emma has been with the company for over three years, and in that time, she has made a significant impact. As part of our Women in Tech campaign, we sat down with Emma to talk about her experience in the industry. 

When asked about her favourite aspect of her job, Emma said, "I love the great team spirit we have within the Fibre Team. I also love the variety of work I do, whether cabling outdoors in the beautiful Manx countryside or installing fibre in homes and businesses and meeting new customers daily." 

Emma is most proud of the team's recent accomplishment of reaching the goal of over 50% of premises/homes that now have fibre broadband on the Isle of Man. She is proud to be part of the team that achieved this, and she also boasts of having the tidiest van out of all the Engineers! 

She believes having more women take roles in the tech/telecommunications industry is important because it creates a good, diverse balance within a team. She also thinks customers appreciate a friendly female face, and the most common thing said to her by customers is, "It's lovely/refreshing to see a female engineer." 

Emma's message to young women thinking about a career in tech is, "If you're technically minded, then nothing should hold you back! Keep your head high and go for it!"
